The last Hunger Games movie came out on DVD this week and since I was in the mood to to a simple pencil sketch I decided to draw the victors.

I am so happy with how Peeta turned out. I had no idea how much of a challenge it would be to get the nose right as I usually make my portraits front and center so it took a while to get to a place where I felt it looked okay.

Katniss however is an entirely different story. I feel like I caught the 'vacant look' in her eyes but apart from that I don't feel the sketch looks right. I messed up her hair and the lips look weird but overall I was happy enough with it that I called it done. [For now]
However it is just about a year ago that I found the tag #OneHundredFaces on Instagram and decided I needed to start improving my drawing skills - so for the sake of comparison here's what my very first drawing looked like.
There's nothing wrong with it as such. It's simple, there's a small similarity to the person I sketched, okay it's more like tiny, but overall it wasn't too awful.

I've really come far this year and I should remind myself of that whenever I feel like I'm not as good as I want to be. Perhaps I should go back and draw this one again. Well that's a job for another day.
